Team of Scientists Discover Missing Matter

By admin | May 6, 2008

Using the European XMM-Newton X-ray satellite, scientists have now discovered part of the missing matter in the universe. Scientists have understood that half of the missing ordinary matter (“atoms”) in the universe consisted of a low density gas. Even with XMM-Newton’s sensitivity, scientists involved in the discovery admit that some luck added to the discovery.

72% of the universe is a mysterious dark energy and 23% of the universe consists of a collective dark matter. Only 5% of the universe consists of normal matter (protons and neutrons – called baryons). To date, scientists only understood half of the world’s ordinary matter.

This discovery will help scientists better understand the evolution of the cosmic web.
